Dale, Evanger, Vieren, Upsete, Reimegrend, Voss

After a quite pleasant night, I arrive in Bergen on my night train.
Bergen station

PlussNatt and Sleeper coach wagons

Sleeper cabin guests get a discounted breakfast at a nearby hotel, so I'm taking advantage of that.
There is already a long queue for the day train to Oslo
But I'm taking another train, the regional train to Voss. No seat reservation required on this train

I got a cup of coffee from Narvesen
The freight train is ready to go, I hope to see it later on in Dale
Bergensbanen is really scenic along the fjords

I'm stepping out at Dale station
The train continues to Voss
Dale station

Dale of Norway has an outlet shop here, and I will buy one of their sweaters later today.
Here it is: the train to Oslo with a long queue to board at Bergen

Dale is a very cozy town to visit
There is a cat
Waiting to say hello
The cat is a local star
So is Dale of Norway outlet store
Since 1956, Dale of Norway has designed and produced official Olympic and World Championship sweaters for the Norwegian National Alpine Ski Team, with new designs for every event. Dale of Norway was later chosen to design the official sweaters for the Winter Olympic Games through the International Olympic Committee (IOC), with the rights to use the Olympic symbols. (Wikipedia)
I could not leave empty-handed
Here it is, train 5506 from Bergen to Alnabru
185 678

Local fish market

The local cat is still here

I'm continuing my trip with local regional trains
Wasa bread just in case
Evanger station

There is a branch railway from Evanger to the local power station

Evanger is a really cozy small town with a church

There is even a cafe in this town, unfortunately, not open at the this time of the day

I'm so thrilled that Norwegians have saved all their stations, in contrast to Sweden, where almost all old wooden stations were demolished.

The next freight from Bergen to Oslo
5922 OnRail from Bergen to Oslo
185 675

Next stop is Vieren
This is an On Demand stop, so it is necessary to inform the train crew if you need to disembark here
The train continues to Myrdal
It's a very short platform, so you can only use the front door

I'm about 800 m above sea level, not as high as Finse (1222m), but you can already feel the mountain air and see some snow

There is a path next to the railway, perfect for walking or bicycling

Duskull flower, aka common cottongrass

I'm continuing

Before continuing further up, I'm visiting Voss, to check in to my hotel

There are lots of tourists this time of the year; most are traveling to Myrdal and further on Flåmsbanen
Upsete
This stop is just before the 5311m Gravhalstunnelen, which leads to Myrdal

Local sheep are dying to meet me
Much nicer to be around sheep than tourists

Hey there

Here, it is a long platform, but it is an on-demand stop, which means it is necessary to tell the conductor to stop here, or, if departing from here, stay close so that the train driver sees the passengers

The train back is a double one
Reimegrend
Now I'm just 464 m above sea level

There is a river nearby Raundalselvi, so I'm walking closer to see it

Here it is and the station
There is a bridge to the other side

Have to cross the railway to get to the river

VY trains to/from Oslo do not stop here

CargoNet from Oslo to Bergen is approaching

The last stop for today is Voss

187 419 on the way to Oslo

It's not cheap to buy tickets on short notice, if you find any at all

Class 14 is still in use on Bergensbanen
