InterRegional train with CP Class 2600
Class 2600, nicknamed Nez-Cassée ("Broken Nose"), is a type of 25 kV 50 Hz electric locomotive currently used by Comboios de Portugal. They are closely based on the SNCF Class BB 15000 locomotive design. The locomotives are part of the Nez Cassé family of locomotives, a popular locomotive style designed by Paul Arzens, designed by Groupement 50Hz (a French consortium led by Alsthom) and entered service in 1974 (Série 2600) and 1987 (Śerie 2620) Of the 12 built, 9 were still in service in 2012. They have a top speed of 160 km/h. (Wikipedia)
In July 2020, CP bought 50 carriages from Renfe for 1.5 million Euros (an average of 30,000 Euros per vehicle). For the modernization, an average of 156,000 Euros per vehicle has been invested, which makes the price per unit rise to 186,000 Euros. The Arco carriages, which can travel at 200 km/h, have been upgraded by installing seats, toilets, air conditioning, and passenger information systems. CP will start their operation in the Minho line, replacing those carriages that need to be revised, while others will reinforce the Linha do Norte. Later on, the units will be incorporated into the Intercidades fleet. (Via Libre)
